Today, the Meeting was opened by Dr. Gyula Csopaki, President of the National Office of Research and Technology. The geospatial and earth observation disciplines were represented by among others the Director general of FÖMI Dr. Szabolcs Mihály and the Secretary-general of HUNAGI. This latter explained among others three proposals: 1) to host the ISDE-8 in Hungary in 2013 in conjuction with the World Science Forum, 2)to activate Hungary's role in GEO/GEOSS and 3) to consider offering venue for one of the next GEO parallel and joint committee meetings in Budapest.
Mission goals and strategic priorities include: Act according to the European Commission INSPIRE principles and coordinate with the UNSDI development process. Support national/cross-border implementation of the INSPIRE Directive. Awareness raising on SDI at political level. Strengthen cohesion between stakeholders and other interested parties ie. public services, SMEs and SDICs. Provide synergies in local, regional, national and global dimensions with outreach towards EU neighbouring countries
